turning into ghouls. Confronted by the minister, her desires for rescue are answered by a mysteriously cloaked figure with a giant 13mm 454 Casull. He casually describes
the vampiric heirarchy while hastily disposing of the minister.
In the process of killing the minister, he is forced to shoot through Celas Victoria's lungs (you don't need
a doctor to know that would hurt). The mysterious man, known as Alucard gives Celas a choice: die with honor, or live on with him. She chooses life, but there is a twist - it is not a
living life...- summary by Otaku Alex

After watching this animé, I was only able to muster up one word: wow. For this review, at least, I beseech you to ignore the review-box-table. This is not an animé you want to miss. What is it that make's this animé so special from all the rest - surely
vampire vs. vampire action has been drilled into the ground. Yes, I admit the idea isn't original, but the execution borders on genius. From the flowing rhythms to the stylish animations, this animé leaves within you a sense of fullfillmenet, that you have not wasted your time. Scene to scene and

charachter to charachter, the animé just seems to flow smoothly and coherantly, a quality that is lacking in all but the greatest.
As you may see, I have given this animé much personal praise, but it is now time to discuss it in its characteristics, beggining with the plot. Although the idea is far
from original, the plot is not. The political intrigue, character motivation, and story progression all combine to form a uniform animé. The only real problem I have with the story is its shortness. Characters seem to appear and dissappear without much explanation, and the 13 episode format did not leave much room for
plot development. This is one animé that would have been better in 26 episode format, but I cannot judge on my opinion. With the time frame that they presented, the plot was revealed almost perfectly, with only 1 or 2 loose ends left at the end.
The music of Hellsing truly requires to be discussed apart from all else. Personally, I now have both of the Hellsing OSTs, just to give you a picture as to how good it veritably is. The only negative comment I can give,
and I must agree with my friend AmethystDragon 87 on this - occasionaly the music does not match the mood presented. This is rarely the case, but it occurs 2 or 3 times through the series and distracts from the effect created.

For this style of animé, the animation was perfect. The contrast between occasional complexity and simplicity of design carried an atmosphere of stylish contemplation that allows the viewer to be more emotionally drawn into the animé.
In terms of weapons design, this anime is second only to 1 other, Trigun, but, then again, Trigun does mean 3 guns, (DOH!). The only distracting part of the animation (the reason it recieved 9 instead of 10) is the overuse of red.
We get the symbol - there's no need to slap it in our faces.
Finally we come to Character Development and Premise. In these aspects, at least for a 13 episode animé, it is above average, but not great. The animé attempts to highlight character motivations, but the period of time is too short to make
their actions overly believable or understandable. In terms of premise, there is an entire episode devoted to the category, but it is focused, and one does not discern the past of all the characters (e.g. Celas Victoria). And still, despity its brevity, follow my earlier advice -- watch this one - watch it and learn the art.
