human - and that virtually everyone has a robotic companion
called a persocon.
Persocons can take your calls, link you to the internet, and be your best friend! Hideki is despondant when he realizes that he doesn't
have enough money to buy a persocon but then is exhuberant when he finds an abandoned unit relegated to a trash dump. Hideki's friend from his prep program, Shinbo-san, knows
a great deal about persocons, but cannot explain Hideki's finding's unparalleled processing power. Since she only can speak the word "Chii", Hideki names her Chii.
Chii quickly picks up japenese but in the earlier episodes she makes some relatively humorous faux-pas by not the meaning of certain words. - summary by Staff Writer AmethystDragon87

Chobits, a CLAMP style shounen animé, is a wonderful story that [I feel] was executed poorly. It's sad to see an animé that possesses so much
potention accumulate so many technical faults.
The most lacking factor of the show at large is the pacing, which accounts for its substantially substandard mark in "plot". The midepisodes [#8-20] do little to advance the story and have an irritating repetitiveness.

The greatest marks are in Character Development and Animation. The visual aspect of Chobits os excellent - it has excellent picture, vivid colors, and a unique style (plenty of eye-candy in short). The performance of the saiyuu is beyond average- the characters convey emotions very convincingly and at some times - poignantly.
Chobits' greatest problem is its terribly anti-climactic ending to top off an already protracted plot. Many questions are left unanswered regarding Chii's identity. The searth for Chii's roots is the main drive of the plot but it doesnt seem to get anywhere - leaving me particularly unsatisfied upon completion.
I give Chobits praise for its dynamic characters and its exploring of relationships between people. As far as animé is concerned human-nonhuman relationships is a theme dwelled into the ground but I cill contend that Chobits does it better that any other-which is why the characters are so memorable.
If you can ignore its obvious pitfalls, Chobits is a great animé, especially if you like the genre. I wouldn't suggest it as a favorite, but it definately made me smile at times ^_^.
